How do I sell on WhatsApp and get paid with Wave or Orange Money?

A WhatsApp seller sends a 221 Pay payment link in the chat: the customer pays with Wave or Orange Money, no code and no NINEA or RCCM.

A WhatsApp seller creates a payment link with the product's price and description, then pastes it into the conversation. The customer pays with Wave or Orange Money on a page hosted by 221 Pay; no code to write, and no NINEA or RCCM to start.

Flow

In the dashboard or with POST /v1/payment-links: an amount in CFA francs and a description of 1 to 80 characters, for example "This week's vegetable basket". See Payment links.

The link is reusable: the same link serves several customers, and each form submission creates a separate payment. A link can also be printed as a QR code for a market stall.

Follow the payments

GET /v1/payments?q=link:<link id> lists a link's payments, with the product description. The payment.succeeded webhook flags each confirmed payment (Webhooks).

Deactivate the link when stock is sold: the page then tells the customer the link is unavailable. An expiry date can also be set at creation. An expired link cannot be reactivated.

Money and payout

The net amount is credited to the balance on confirmation. Withdrawing requires identity verification, once, on one document (national ID card or passport). See What is needed to start and to withdraw?

Cost

2% per Wave or Orange Money collection in Senegal, operator fees included: How much does 221 Pay cost?

Limit

A link has a fixed amount: for a variable cart, use the API (How do I accept a first payment through the API?).
