How does a freelancer without a company collect with Wave or Orange Money?

A freelancer collects clients through Wave and Orange Money with one payment link per invoice, without NINEA or RCCM. ID document before the first payout.

A freelancer creates a 221 Pay account without NINEA or RCCM, then sends each client a payment link per invoice. The money lands on the 221 Pay balance; an identity document is requested only before the first payout.

Flow

Create the account

Open the 221 Pay dashboard and create an account. No document is required for that or to accept payments (What is needed to start and to withdraw?).

A link carries the amount in CFA francs, a description of 1 to 80 characters (for example "Invoice 2026-014, website mockup") and, optionally, an expiry date. The client picks Wave or Orange Money, enters their number and pays. See Payment links.

By email, SMS or messaging: the link is a link_to_pay address. No payment page to build.

Withdraw

Verify identity once (one document, national ID card or passport, photographed in the dashboard), register a payout number, then withdraw the balance. See Payouts.

Cost

2% of the amount per Wave or Orange Money collection in Senegal, and 2% per payout to a mobile number. Example: a 100,000 CFA franc invoice credits 98,000 CFA francs. See How much does 221 Pay cost?

When to move to the API

If invoices are issued by software that must be told about the payment, the API and webhooks do it without manual work: How do I accept a first payment through the API?

Refund

An overpaying client or a cancelled service is refunded in full or in part, without identity verification: Refunds.
